Monday

Today was our first day working at The Salvation Army in Southeast DC. We had a time of orientation this morning, then went to a local independent living facility for Senior Adults. We sang songs and gave out socks to the residents that had gathered for lunch in the dining hall. The youth really enjoyed spending time with the Sr. Adults, and it was great to see how the presence of Christ reaches beyond generations to connect us to one another. This afternoon we went into the city and visited the Smithsonian Museum of American History. From Dorothy's ruby slippers to the original US flag that inspired the writing of the "Star Spangled Banner," we all enjoyed our dip into the history of the American people. Tomorrow we begin our work at the park with the kids of Southeast DC. Praying for no rain (as I write this it is pouring outside!) and for lots of children to be present at the "Street VBS" we have planned for them!
